Where did the idea of painting the road red come from?
Before arriving in our country, this marking system proved its worth under the Spanish sun. It was first tested on the A-355 motorway near Malaga. Over a four-kilometer stretch, a bright red band was painted in the middle of the road, bordered by continuous white lines. Its secret? Beyond formally prohibiting overtaking, the color plays a trick on the brain. It creates an optical illusion: the road appears to narrow, prompting drivers to slow down without even thinking about it. The results in terms of safety were quickly apparent.
