Warning signs of high blood sugar

Hyperglycemia, often associated with diabetes, shows warning signs long before diagnosis. Faced with a diet rich in processed foods, awareness and education are essential to detect and manage these indicators.

1. Excessive Urination
Drinking too much water before bedtime can cause nighttime urination. However, high blood sugar can lead to urinary tract infections and increased urinary frequency.
2. Blurred Vision
Temporary blurred vision is often caused by hyperglycemia, not the need for glasses. Swelling of the lens caused by the increase in glucose levels is likely the cause.
3. Difficulty Concentrating
A lack of insulin prevents the removal of glucose from the blood, thereby disrupting the body's functioning. Fatigue, lack of concentration, and dehydration can result from hyperglycemia, as the body tries to eliminate excess glucose through urine.
4. Dry Mouth
Rising blood sugar levels lead to dry mouth due to increased glucose in the blood and saliva. 5. Erectile Dysfunction (Impotence)
This issue, specific to men, is caused by poor long-term blood sugar regulation, which leads to nerve and blood vessel damage.
6. Recurrent Infections
It is important to monitor recurring infections as well as dysfunctions in glands such as the thyroid, adrenal glands, and pituitary gland. Stay vigilant regarding pancreatic diseases and significant increases in blood sugar levels.
7. Slow Wound Healing
A delay in the healing of minor injuries can indicate hyperglycemia. Nerve damage and reduced blood circulation impair skin repair in the affected areas.
8. Digestive Problems
High blood sugar can slow down stomach emptying, which can cause bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting.
9. Constant Fatigue
Low levels of thyroid hormones often lead to fatigue, drowsiness, and depression. Furthermore, the energy required to fight off infections causes constant fatigue and hyperglycemia.
10. Excessive Thirst
High blood sugar levels put a heavy strain on the kidneys, which must work harder to filter and absorb excess sugar. This process requires an increase in urine output to eliminate sugar from the body, leading to constant thirst. 11. Dry and Itchy Skin
Itchy skin is often caused by poor blood circulation, with the legs being the most frequently affected area.
12. Always Hungry
While an increased appetite is normal for some people, a lack of incretin (a gut hormone) can lead to an increased feeling of hunger and faster stomach emptying, which can potentially raise blood sugar levels.
13. Excess Belly Fat
Constant hunger can indicate high blood sugar levels, as the food consumed does not provide enough energy to feed your cells.
14. Nerve Damage (Neurological Issues)
High blood sugar levels can damage the blood vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients to the nerves, potentially causing nerve complications.
15. Skin Changes
Skin discoloration and growths can indicate hyperglycemia, including dark, velvety patches on the neck and hands.
16. Tingling Sensations
Tingling and numbness in certain parts of the body can indicate hyperglycemia and neuropathy, a type of nerve damage associated with it.
